San Diego's ADU boom has flooded the market with general contractors learning stucco on the job. SD Plastering Company has been hand-troweling exterior stucco for 40 years — and ADUs are now one of our largest workloads. We deliver permit-ready, seamlessly matched, on-schedule stucco for detached ADUs, JADUs, attached additions, and garage conversions across all of San Diego County.

An ADU's exterior stucco is what makes the unit look like a permanent, intentional part of the property — or like a tacked-on backyard shed. Done correctly, ADU stucco involves proper weather-resistive barrier installation behind the lath, code-compliant ASTM C1063 lath spacing, foundation-level weep screed, expansion joints engineered for the wall geometry, and a finish coat that matches the main house's texture and color precisely. Done badly, it cracks within a year, leaks at the trim, and visually screams "addition." We've spent four decades doing it correctly.
We handle every flavor of San Diego ADU: ground-up detached units (typically 400–1,200 sq ft), attached additions to the main house, junior ADUs (JADUs) carved out of existing interior space, full garage-to-living-space conversions, and second-story pop-up additions. Each comes with its own stucco challenges — detached units need full three-coat new construction stucco, conversions require seamless infill where the garage door used to be, and attached additions demand perfect color and texture matching at the seam.
This is where most ADU projects visually fail. We hand-blend integral pigment color on-site (not bagged premix), produce sample boards for owner approval, and replicate the original finish style — whether that's 1980s heavy lace, 1990s cat-face, modern smooth Santa Barbara, fine float, dash, or English cottage. The new ADU stucco feathers into the existing wall so cleanly that future buyers and appraisers can't tell where the addition begins.
Talk to a real estimator — no call centers, no high-pressure sales. Just honest pricing from San Diego's most trusted plastering crew.
